Ed and Elaine Kukawka

Ed and Elaine Kukawka were always a kind and generous presence at University Settlement. Ed grew up in Slavic Village and attended youth programming and summer camps at the Settlement when he was a child. As an adult, Ed was always generous and thoughtful, especially to our Youth Department.

Every year Ed supported our Youth Fall Party. The youth would have pumpkin carvers to watch, donuts to eat, and apple cider to drink.

Ed always supported our annual Back to School Fairs too. He made sure pony rides were available at every fair. He would even take photos of them on the pony with a Polaroid camera to give to their parents.

Around the office, Ed was simply known as “the doughnut man”. He would bring doughnuts by the office multiple times a week to make sure our staff had a treat.

Since his passing in 2011, his wife Elaine kept up many of his traditions. She made sure that the Youth Department had what they needed and that the staff always had a treat.

All of us at University Settlement are so grateful for Ed and Elaine, and the kindness they showed us over the years.

Elaine passed away last year, and University Settlement was left a generous gift. We have been challenged to match their incredible gift of $125,000 before the end of the year. So, in Ed and Elaine’s honor, live generously and kindly.

Match their gift here and make sure to add “matching” in the notes!
